Winter Water Damage
It’s that time of year again! The cold weather is heading towards Middle Tennessee and it’s time to get your home ready to fight the winter storms. Are you 100% sure that your home is completely prepared for the snow, ice, rain, and wind? Use these quick tips from Farrer Construction and your home will be safe and sound all winter long.
Prepare Your Home Exterior
The exterior of your home is just as important as the inside. From your patio to your lawn, the exterior of your home can be damaged by the winter weather if not properly taken care of before the winter arrives.
Your patio furniture will not fare well if not either stored away for the winter or covered and secured by a strong tarp. It is in your best interest to completely store your patio furniture in a safe location, to make sure that your furniture is completely safe.
Also, don’t forget to turn off all of your outdoor faucets. You don’t want them freezing, clogging or breaking during the winter! While you’re outside, be sure to clear out your gutters as well. If you’re tired of cleaning out your gutters, be sure to purchase and install a gutter guard product prior to the snow, ice and winter storms arriving.
Getting The Inside of Your Home Ready for Winter.
Start preparing the inside of your home by replacing your window and door screens with sturdy storm windows and doors. Your screen doors and windows will not last through the winter, as they will become incredibly damaged.
After you have completed that step, fully inspect your heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems. Look for signs of damage and to see if they are operating correctly. If you notice anything alarming, contact your local HVAC repairman as soon as possible. You don’t want to spend your winter without heat!
If you’re looking to reduce your energy bill this winter, try reversing the direction of your ceiling fans. This tactic will blow the hot air towards the ground, thus helping you keep heat in your home.
